When selecting a stroller, you want
one that keeps your baby safe and comfortable. But think about yourself, too,
since you're the one who'll be pushing it. Here are some things to consider: An
alternative is an all-in-one travel system, which consists of an infant car
seat, a car-seat base, and a stroller. But with so many different types of
strollers available, it can be hard to tell which one is right for your family.
Are you looking for something cheap and light, or do you want to splurge on a
stylish and sturdy top-of-the-line model? Or do you just want something basic
and all-purpose? Are you going to be taking it off-road or just navigating the
grocery store? Do you need one that can carry more than one child? They can be
heavy and take up more room than just a stroller frame, but once your baby
reaches 6 months and can sit up and control his head and neck movements, you'll
have the flexibility to use the travel system's stroller without the infant
seat snapped in. Some travel system strollers can accommodate an infant less
than 6 months without the car seat, if the seat reclines to nearly flat. A
travel system is costlier but a good value because the stroller can be used
after your child outgrows the infant car seat, unlike a car seat carrier frame.
It’s hard to find one stroller that is completely perfect, but they all have
some great accessories. It was really
important to you to get a nice size basket underneath for storage. You also
wanted two cup holders to drink hot coffee on your morning walk, so the
stroller you found with a second cup holder.
Some strollers come with rain covers, foot muffs, snack trays, etc….it
all depends on what you need. Of course,
you can purchase most of these things separately, but it’s nice when a stroller
comes with a few of them!
Do not use an infant car seat as a
replacement for a crib. When you arrive at home take the time to transition
your sleeping baby to a crib rather than leaving them sleeping unattended in
the car seat. Only a crib should be used for unobserved sleep. More detail on
this topic can be found in the safety section of our
You can't run with a standard
stroller, so if you plan to go running with baby to keep you company, you'll
need a jogging stroller. And a standard stroller is heavier and bulkier than an
umbrella stroller, so if you need to carry it on public transit or travel with
it, you may want a lighter option.
